The Pollinators Art Prints

from $14.00

Art print reproduction of Rachel Johanningsmeier’s original piece "Rhododendron Madness" created in prismacolor colored pencils. This is the first drawing in her series titled "The Pollinators" that depicts female portraits intertwined with different pollinating creatures and their plant life of choice. They draw attention to the delicate relationship between small creatures and the beautiful environment that we share.

“Rhododendron Madness” is named after the rhododendron flowers that frame the girls face. Bees in the Himalayan Mountains make honey from the rather toxic pollen on these flowers. Known to have hallucinogenic properties, the "mad honey" has been sought out for centuries to be used medicinally and recreationally.

“Where the Wild Lupines Grow” tells the story of the symbiosis between the Karner Blue Butterfly and Wild Lupine. The karner caterpillars feed exclusively on the leaves of the wildflower, drastically limiting the areas they may inhabit. Additionally, the butterfly’s require an environment where there are 80 days of snowpack to protect their eggs. This specific combination of needs leaves the survival of the Karner Blue to the whims of the Wild Lupine.

~Art Print on thick 100lb cardstock paper

~Will be a part of a larger collection of drawings. Collect them as new pieces are dropped!
